THE OTHER SIDE OF FACES 2006

In this Artwork human faces as presented as a canvas and captured through the eye of a camera in a unique exhibition that reflects ideas and visions of individual roles in everyday life. They hide behind masks and assume personae for many reasons and follow established patterns of behavior that develop through their interaction with objects. In such a world things get more confusing and the line between reality and delusion gets blurry.

Our idea:-

Ayman Lotfy and Riham Sadany approach this experience from their point of view as interested observers, transforming what they feel into unusual images.

In this artwork, we tried to break down the barriers between painting and photography and merge the two Medias into an artwork that led to the creation of a larger and more complex statement.

Both artists thought of developing their idea through mixing their tools, elements, technique, and experience. The principal idea of working together on this artwork took two purposes.

First was to combine their vision through showing how two different artists with different backgrounds, experience, and vision can present work of creative art in open-ended and associative ways, which reflect the connections and links through working in an artistically appropriate way, through this experience the structure of their artwork gets stronger and more expressive not mentioning the technique.

The second purpose could be clear through their hopes to Shed light on the question of

“What is the other side of faces?”

Which took the role of discussing the multiply personalities existing inside people, and the fact that a face is an image and not necessarily reflects who the person is.

The Photographer Statement:-

I would like to explain why I chose this name (THE OTHER SIDE OF FACES) for this book, Each one of us have both sides angel and devil, But if we talk about the soul of anyone, I believe it is considered the good side … and here comes the question: How could we touch the soul of the others with whom we have a relationship?

If I speak for myself, I will say that I have always tried to be choosy when it comes to people whom I wanted to contact and know. Unfortunately, I found myself dealing with people who did not match mine. Therefore, I am trying to have relationships with their souls, which are the good side of their characters.

From my point of view, I think it is always working that way and you could have a lot of relations with the other because you always go far away from what we might call the other face (The bad side) As a matter of fact, if you’re used to dealing with their soul your relationships will start from deep inside you going straight to them .. and when you will be together you will feel them, touch their souls, at this point you will never care about how they look like, whether or not they are beautiful you will see them always in the same way, no matter how presentable they are.

you will look straight to their souls, from inside not from outside, that’s why I don’t feel strange when I read the famous novel written by the French novelist Victor Hugo ‘Notre Dame de Paris’ , or the men love ugly women and vice versa .. and I feel very strange when I see men who judge women on bases of appearance because this is nonsense .. cause I can tell that we decorate our faces and bodies but we could not decorate our souls.

Technically, this book shows the different kinds of faces. II was given this chance, with the help of the model & painter RIHAM EL SADANY. I tried to take a different shoot with different gestures of faces using two important tools, in my opinion, which is not my digital camera or the autofocus lenses but the selection of music and the lighting which is giving different masks. Those are not so great but reflecting to us different emotions.

In this book, around 150 shoots had been selected from more than 3500 shoots that had been taken through a whole year.
